Are you British and own a secondary property in France? Good news for you!
A new bill to control immigration and improve integration in France was adopted by the Commission Mixte Paritaire on December 19, 2023.
This reform introduces major changes, particularly concerning British people who own a second home in France.
A new article L.312-4-1 has been added to the CESEDA (Code de l'entrée et du séjour des étrangers et du droit d'asile).
This creates a specific sentence for British nationals who own a second home in France.
Under this new law, the long-stay visa will now be issued by right (de "plein droit") to these owners, exempting them from having to submit an application for a long-stay visa to the French Consulate in London.
This measure is designed to simplify the process of obtaining a visa for British citizens who own a second home in France, making it easier for them to stay in the country for longer. However, it is important to note that the conditions for applying this law will be specified by decree in the Conseil d'Etat.
We will have to wait for the law to be promulgated and come into force to find out the details of the procedure.
Nonetheless, this provision was eagerly awaited after the Brexit and is much appreciated!
